KIVA EAST SCREENING FENCE PROJECT, DALLAS,
This public art installation combines five translucent polycarbonate graphic art panels with five intricately laser-cut metal panels to create a distinctive architectural screen separating a parking area from Dallas’s historic Santa Fe Trail. Each graphic panel explores a different aspect of the trail’s history, contemporary use, and connection to the city. Alternating with the graphic panels, the laser-cut steel designs incorporate Southwestern and Native American-inspired motifs representing the sun’s progression from sunrise through sunset. Unified within a custom-fabricated steel framework, the installation serves as both a functional barrier and a visual celebration of the trail’s cultural heritage. Individual LED illumination brings each panel to life after dark, creating a soft, luminous display of color, light, and shadow. Special thanks to Levi of London Metalscapes, LLC, for his excellent precision laser-jet cutting of the Southwestern-themed metal designs.
